Purpose of Marital Coaching
The purpose of marital coaching offered through the Song of Solomon Relationship Institute is to provide relationship education, skills training, guidance, and faith-based support for couples seeking to strengthen their relationship.
Marital coaching focuses on helping couples:
- Improve communication and understanding
- Develop healthy relationship habits
- Strengthen emotional and spiritual connection
- Navigate conflict in constructive ways
- Clarify shared goals, values, and vision
Coaching sessions may include teaching, guided discussions, structured exercises, and practical tools designed to help couples grow together.
Coaching Is Not Psychotherapy
Marital coaching is not psychotherapy, counseling, or mental health treatment.
Although LaShun Franklin, MA, LLP is a licensed mental health professional, services provided through the Song of Solomon Relationship Institute are separate from her clinical counseling practice and are provided strictly in the capacity of relationship coaching and education.
Participants should understand that:
- Coaching does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions
- Coaching is not a substitute for psychotherapy or psychiatric care
- Coaching does not create a therapist-client relationship
- Coaching records are not considered medical or clinical records
If serious mental health concerns, trauma, domestic violence, addiction, or psychiatric conditions are identified, participants may be referred to appropriate licensed professionals for treatment.
Voluntary Participation
Participation in marital coaching is completely voluntary. Couples are encouraged to engage honestly and respectfully in discussions and activities.
Each participant remains responsible for:
- Their personal decisions
- Their individual emotional well-being
- The application of any tools or guidance discussed during sessions
While facilitators provide guidance and insight, participants maintain full responsibility for choices made in their relationship.
Confidentiality
Facilitators strive to maintain a respectful and private environment for all participants. However, because coaching sessions may include group discussions or couples workshops, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed between participants.
Participants agree to:
- Respect the privacy of other couples
- Refrain from sharing personal stories or identifying information outside the session
Facilitators will not disclose personal information shared during coaching unless:
- Required by law
- There is a credible risk of harm to oneself or others
- There is disclosure of abuse or neglect as defined by law
Appropriate Expectations
Marital coaching is designed to support relationship growth, but outcomes cannot be guaranteed.
Results depend on many factors including:
- Willingness to participate
- Consistency in applying tools learned
- Personal commitment to growth and change
The facilitators do not guarantee reconciliation, resolution of all conflicts, or specific relationship outcomes.
Faith-Based Framework
The Song of Solomon Relationship Institute provides coaching from a biblically informed perspective. Scripture, faith principles, and spiritual reflection may be incorporated into sessions.
Participants of all backgrounds are welcome; however, they should understand that the program may include Christian-based relationship teachings.
